Benefits of Annexation (according to Yuba City)

      Customer Service

  • The City and its 200+ employees welcomes you.  We are a City that prides ourselves on providing you , our customers, with the best service possible.  If you annex to Yuba City you can expect service by employees that are eager to attend to your needs and are well trained to perform their duties.

Property taxes

  • Your taxes will not go up.  The basic rate for property tax (1%), school bonds and interest are the same whether your property is in the City or County.

  • Upon annexation the City will receive a small portion (14%) of the taxes you already pay to cover the services the City will provide for you.  On a house with an assessed value of $100,000 the City receives $140 yearly.

  • With annexation some County district taxes may be eliminated.

  • Water and Sewer Service

  • State Certified Water Supply

  • State Certified Sewer System

  • 18-hour on call State Certified Personnel

  • No water or sewer hook-up is required upon annexation or thereafter.  The County Health Dept. may require hook-up regardless of annexation, if your septic system fails.

  • No City restriction on continued use of septic tanks and wells.

  • An adequate water supply is available for fire protection.

  • Monthly bills for existing City water and/or sewer service will be reduced by one-half of the base amount charged.

Public Works

  • For single-family residences, curb, gutter and sidewalk improvements are not required upon annexation or at any time thereafter.

  • If desired by area residents the City will assist you in creating an assessment district (deferred payment plan) process that is used for street improvements and water and sewer line extensions.

  • You will receive routine street sweeping which presently is not available to you.

  • The city will accept responsibility for all storm drain, street lighting and park maintenance.

Building and Planning

  • Permit processing and development standards are similar to those in the County.

  • Building inspectors and planners are always available to assist residents and contractors.

Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Aid

  • 18-hour on duty staff.

  • Excellent response time from 3 stations strategically located within the city.

  • Potential fire insurance savings

Police Protection

  • Operates under a philosophy of Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPP).

  • Coverage by patrol car, motorcycle, bicycle, K-9 and foot patrol.

  • Excellent response time citywide.

  • Emergency Medical Dispatching.

  • Community Outreach Services i.e. Citizen Academy, Crime Prevention and business/community partnerships.

Leisure Services

  • The City distributes a Leisure Guide 4 times a year listing all recreation programming including recreational activities, for sports, tours, trips and self-improvement classes.

  • Yuba City Senior Center offers your-round activities for all seniors 50 years old and up.

  • YCAP (Your Children At Play) offers after school programs at April Lane and (  ?  ) Ave. Schools.

Business Licenses

  • A business license is requited for any person (individual, partnership or corporation) doing any kind of business activity in the City.

City Council, Commissions, Committees, and Boards

  • City Council meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month.

  • Planning Commission meets 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month.

  • Parks & Recreation Commission meets Wednesday of each month.

  • Senior Commission meets 1st Wednesday of each month.

  • Youth Commission meets 1st Wednesday of each month.

  • Traffic Committee meets on an as need basis, usually about 5 times a year.

  • Handicapped Board of Appeals meet at discretion of the Chairman on an as needed basis.

  • Personnel Board meets annually in July, after that on an as needed basis.
